Sponges

Phylum Porifera


These are the most primitive animals. They are comprised of cells that serve different functions. Without a mouth, they take in water through spores in their body. They come in different shapes, sizes and colours. They were once used as cleaning sponges until it was over-harvested and the practice stopped.
